Town Leaders Read The Great Gatsby

January 11, 2013

As part of WestportREADS 2013, town leaders came together to read the first two chapters of The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. Black and white photos of Fitzgerald and life in the 1920s flashed behind them on a large screen as they each read sections of the book to the crowd who came to listen. The readers were:

                *Library Director Maxine Bleiweis

*Former Board of Education member Jim Marpe

*Staples High School English teacher Dan Geraghty

                *Superintendent of Schools Elliott Landon

                *Technology Consultant Mark Mathias

*Former Staples High School English teacher Gerry Kuroghlian

                *First Selectman Gordon Joseloff

*Staples High School principal John Dodig

Gatsby readers

Special Opportunity: Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald lived in Westport briefly in 1920, and to celebrate their time here, former SHS English teacher Dr. Gerry Kuroghlian will give a talk on February 2 about their experience in town. Twenty lucky winners will be chosen in a drawing to attend the February 2 talk, which will be at the house the Fitzgeralds rented on South Compo Road. You will receive an opportunity to enter the drawing at each WestportREADS event attended.

WestportREADS 2013 is funded by Jerry A. Tishman.
