WHO WE ARE
Friends of the Westport Library
is a non-profit membership organization which supports & promotes
the Library through contributions, program enrichment & volunteerism.
Anyone can become a member of the Friends by completing a membership
form & enclosing annual dues. Forms are available at the Library
and online.
Since 1947, the Friends have been expanding Library services through
cultural programs &gifts to the Library. Over 200 programs,
which are free & open the public, are planned every year. Friends
have given gifts of books, furniture, audio & visual equipment
& technology. All Friends programs are funded through membership
dues, book sales & proceeds from the Library Store.
WHAT WE DO
afternoons@the library - Features slide lectures, talks by scholars
& special presentations, usually on a Sunday afternoon.
authors@the library - Offers the opportunity to hear writers
talk about their recent books, once a month on a Wednesday at noon,
occasional evening presentations.
film@the library - A movie is featured with discussion led
by film professionals, varied times.
music@the library - Brings jazz, classical & Broadway tunes
to the Library for your enjoyment, once a month on a Sunday afternoon.
Art exhibit receptions are planned for the openings of new
art exhibits in the Great Hall of the Library.
Children's special events provide entertainment beyond regular
library programs.
Children's summer reading program kickoff & final events
are sponsored by the Friends.
What We Do--Projects
Book for Babies packets for new parents.
Kids on Books a publication of book reviews by and for kids.
Parent & Child Book Groups for children aged 6 to 12.
Memorial Day Parade float.
The Giving Tree collection of donated books distributed to area
children's charities in November.
Daily Books for Sale shelves maintained at the Library.
Book Sales held in November, March and July.
Special Friend Award event honoring a Friends volunteer each
year.
