You may think the title of this entry was misspelled, but it is most definitely not.  I am referring to our downloadable e-book service – Freading.  Summer is the perfect time to take advantage of this fun and easy way to do your summer reading.  With your Westport Library card and your e-reading device, you’ll be on your way – no waiting involved.  With hundreds of titles to choose from, here are a few to get you started.

Robert Goolrick, bestselling author of A Reliable Wife, has just released a new book, Heading Out to Wonderful, available on Freading as well as in hard copy.  This suspenseful story of a love gone wrong, takes place in a small southern town just after World War II.   This is a beautifully written story with great characters that has already received many positive reviews.

Fans of The New Yorker will love reading the newly released memoir, The Receptionist by Janet Groth.  Ms. Groth worked as a receptionist at the offices of The New Yorker from 1957 to 1978 and has many stories to tell of the writers and other notables who walked through the doors.  She was recently featured in the NYTimes and her book has been picked as a Book of the Week by O magazine.

Carol Wallace appeared at the Westport Library in May to speak about her current book, To Marry an English Lord, co-written with author Gail MacColl. This social history of American heiresses who traveled to Europe trying to find “royal husbands” was the inspiration for the hit TV series, Downton Abbey.  Her visit sparked a renewed interest in the book, and it’s available on Freading without a wait.

Recently published, The Sleepy Hollow Family Almanac by Kris DAgostino, sounds like the perfect choice for summer reading.  Calvin Moretti is a college dropout, living at home and trying to figure out his next step.  This funny debut novel about moving from adolescence to adulthood will resonate with many readers, especially those from Generation Y who have moved back home with Mom and Dad.

Another new title that is getting favorable reviews is Pocket Kings by Ted Heller.  Frank Dixon is a frustrated writer who has taken up online gambling when he develops writer’s block.  As he becomes more successful in the virtual world, his real life begins to fall apart.   This is a funny, satirical look at both the publishing industry and online gambling

Two book club favorites, Mudbound by Hilary Jordan and Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen are always ready and available on Freading – no waiting! There are many other great choices to download, with new titles added regularly.  If you need a suggestion or help with Freading, just ask one of our staff – we’re more than happy to help.
