This is one of my favorite books to read at Itty Bittys! |
The Wonderful Wizard of Oz
by L. Frank Baum
ages 4 & up |
This is a great book for readers of all ages and it is also a wonderful read-aloud choice for young children who like to hear a short chapter before bedtime. Best of all, the story of Dorothy and Oz continues in more than 40 sequels by Baum and other authors. Gotta read 'em all! |

Jojofu
by Michael P. Waite Grades K-3 (J 398.2 Wa) |
Jojofu is the dog heroine of this old Japanese tale. She saves her young master first from a rock fall, and then from falling off a cliff in the fog. The young hunter initially scolds the dog for her erratic behavior, but after she saves him the second time, he promises always to have faith in her. His promise ends up saving both their lives. Beautiful illustrations are the highlight of this great story for dog lovers |

When twelve-year-old Ellie inherits an old Vermont farm from grandmother Aurelia, she reads a set of diaries written by an ancestor and discovers secrets from the past. This is a very special book about real life and families. Read it! Trust me! |
Kiki Strike : inside the shadow city
by Kirsten Miller
Ages 10 & up (J Miller)
|
Looking outside her New York apartment one day, Ananka sees that the park across the street has collapsed into the ground. This strange event eventually leads her to an encounter with Kiki Strike, a mysterious and charismatic schoolmate who reveals to Ananka the secret of the Shadow City, which supposedly exists 70 feet below Manhattan. Kiki then recruits Ananka and four renegade Girl Scouts (each having various interests like lock picking, mixing chemical explosives, creating disguises and forgery, to mention just a few) and together they comb the underground finding gold, cash, furs, cadavers and huge, live rats. I’m only halfway through this book and I can’t wait to see what happens next! |

Beginning at his toes, a little girl laboriously climbs up her father until she is perched triumphantly on top of his head. Along the way, she provides practical advice on making this a successful procedure: "Remember, the Daddy Mountain must wear a shirt. Because if you grab hold of his skin, he'll get mad." |
|
Shipwrecked after a vicious storm, fourteen-year-old John Spencer attempts to save his father and himself while also dealing with an evil secret about the English coastal town where they are stranded. Great for fans of Treasure Island, this is Book 1 of a trilogy. |
|
Fifteen-year old Bobby wakes up one morning and finds that he is invisible. In some books, this would be a rollickingly funny situation. Here, invisibility is realistically represented as a problem—a BIG problem! Bobby’s parents try to be supportive, but Bobby also feels that they are trying to dictate to him how he should handle his predicament. Ultimately, being invisible gives Bobby unexpected opportunities to explore new possibilities in his relationships with his parents and with other people—plus he gets to sneak into the private offices of a major corporation and do a little espionage! |

Two mice, one who sleeps inside the house in a clock and one who sleeps outside the house in a stump, follow complicated but strangely parallel paths and meet each other at a window. The kindergarteners at King’s Highway Elementary School were delighted. The pictures are the thing! |
Birdwing
by Rafe Martin
Grades 6 & up (J Martin) |
When I was a child, I loved the story of the brothers-cursed by an evil stepmother to live as swans-and their sister who made magical coats to save them. Just as the sister is about to be burned at the stake, her brothers swoosh down out of the sky, she throws the coats over them and they turn back into humans. The youngest prince was left with a swan wing instead of an arm because his coat was only partially finished. This is his story. |

(J Ryan) |
From the author of Esperanza Rising comes this modern tale of Naomi Outlaw, her little brother, their great grandmother, some friends and a silver camping trailer called Baby Beluga--all on a quest to Mexico to find Naomi's father. This serious story, told with a light touch, warmed my heart! |

In book three of the series, Violet sees a fish that looks like her friend Brittany in the pet store fish tank, Violet and Sprite think that maybe some fishy fairy magic is afoot! Emma has been reading this series and she told me all about it. I really enjoyed reading book three and I'm sure the other titles are just as good. Thanks Emma! |
