Artist to Artist: Heidi Palmer & Miggs Burroughs Talk
In conjunction with the ongoing Great Hall exhibit, Westport painter Heidi Palmer discusses her work with Artist-in-Residence and illustrator/photographer Miggs Burroughs. Palmer's paintings suggest a story or narrative that leaves the details for viewers to supply, each in their own way.
Palmer focuses in her work on light, air and the meaning of time. Light is always the point of departure for each painting; it governs her compositions, defines form and is the catalyst for delving into the ephemeral effects of air and atmosphere, which clarify the painting's sense of place. And, for Palmer, who is really a visual storyteller at heart, the element of time has become increasingly important, referencing memories, beginnings, endings and longings―what we all share as human beings.
