Encounter Shakespeare!

William Shakespeare's poetry comes alive in this family-friendly event celebrating the music, rhythm and vibrancy of the English language's greatest playwright.

10 am: What Dost Thou Mean?
What would Shakespeare sound like if his plays were written today? Join us for a workshop transcribing Shakespeare’s speech into modern-day speech.  

10:30-11:45 am: All The World’s A Stage
Connecticut Free Shakespeare actor Eric Nyquist performs this hilarious piece about the brilliance of Shakespeare. 

12 pm: Building Character
See how the voice and body become instruments on the Shakespearean stage in this interactive theatre workshop.

12:30 pm: Sword Play
This fun workshop will walk participants through the basics of sword combat and the parry positions. *No contact or swords will be used.

1 pm: Ronald Wimberly
and “Prince of Cats”

This acclaimed Image Comics’ artist discusses his graphic novel adaptation of ”Romeo and Juliet,” written in iambic pentameter!

Throughout the day in our Ye Olde Maker Space, there will be bookbinding and crafting wax seals.
