Overcoat Winter Film Series: Waiting for Guffman

Saturday, Jan 20, 2018 12:00 PM - 3:00 PM

Enjoy a brief introduction by filmmaker Doris Jacoby and a film. This is a part of a series of five films running on Saturdays, January 6-February 3 at noon at the Westport Center for Senior Activities, 21 Imperial Avenue.

Christopher Guest wrote, directed and starred in Waiting for Guffman, with his usual ad-lib technique. It’s a hilarious “mock documentary” about an amateur theatre group in a small Missouri town, anticipating the arrival of an important Broadway theatrical agent. From the lame auditions for their 1940s-style musical to their overly enthusiastic director, the film, to quote Roger Ebert, "has a 'comic relentlessness' throughout." (1997, 1h 30m)
