WestportREADS 2017: Riverwalk Hallway Exhibit: “Where Were You in the 1970s?”—Can You Help?

Thursday, Dec 22, 2016 - Wednesday, Mar 15, 2017

The Westport Library’s WestportREADS selection for 2017 is Bettyville by George Hodgman, a humorous, insightful memoir about an accomplished gay man who leaves New York City to care for his aging, ailing mother in Paris, Missouri, where he grew up and came of age in the 1970s. Entitled “Where Were You in the 1970s?,” the WestportREADS exhibit will look at Westport in the ’70s and also where and how current Westporters passed the era of pet rocks and lava lamps, whether here in town or elsewhere. So tell us where you were—and who you were—in the 1970s.

Share memories & photos of your life in the 1970s.
Whether you spent the 1970s in Westport or elsewhere, write and tell us about yourself or your family in the ‘70s—and share a photo or two from the period. Be sure to include the names of the people in the photo, when they or you came to Westport and when and where the photos were taken.

Submission guidelines:

  • Keep your text to 500 words or less.
  • Email your text and digital photo submissions to ctimmons [at] westportlibrary [dot] org, using “SEVENTIES” in the subject line. Include in your email your full name, the town you live in now and your phone number (in case we have questions).
  • Submit images as jpegs, with the file name marked with your full name; ALSO, in the email, identify who’s in the photo, using “from left to right” if there’s more than one person.
  • If you have photos but are unable to scan them, email us for scanning help.

DEADLINE for Submissions: Monday, November 28
Got questions? Email Chris Timmons at ctimmons [at] westportlibrary [dot] org.

The display will run December 20, 2016—March 20, 2017.

WestportREADS is funded by the estate of Jerry A. Tishman.
