WestportREADS 2019: Collection Event for Share Your Story: Virtual Exhibit of Westport’s Origins
In collaboration with the Westport Historical Society, the Library is helping to create a virtual exhibit that celebrates Westport’s immigrant past, present and future by offering a visual representation of the patchwork history of our town, which becomes richer and more vibrant with every new person that enters it.

Collection events so that staff can help you with your submission, including scanning of images and/or collection of physical objects to loan for the Westport Historical Society exhibit, "Liberty to Set Down: Immigrants and Migrants in Westport":
- Thursday,December 27, 11 am-6 pm at the Westport Historical Society, 25 Avery Place
- Saturday January 12 from 11 am-2 pm at the Library
- Wednesday, January 16 from 10 am-noon at Center for Senior Activities, 21 Imperial Avenue
- Pop-Up library visits to the YMCA and Town Hall.
We invite everyone to share their story—how did your family get here? Submissions could include some of the following: photos of first generation Westporters, ancestral family members who immigrated to the area and photos of relevant land or objects. Copies of documents, like a census or ship manifest, would also be a great submission. Every submission should have a visual component, as well as a written component that explains the picture and your family’s journey. The statement must be no more than one page in length. We are accepting scanned or photographed copies of handwritten statements, as well as typed statements. All members of our community are welcome to participate!
