WestportWRITES Mini-Conference: The Art and Tech of Podcasting

Sunday, Dec 2, 2018 12:00 PM - 5:00 PM

With our first year under our belt and the innaugural Saugatuck StoryFest in the rearview, the new year of WestportWRITES is ready to rock! We start with a mini-conference focusing on narrative podcasting. Register online.

Location: Toquet Hall, 58 Post Road East

What does it take to create a podcast and make it stand out in a very crowded field? Join Maker in Residence Anthony Desiato (documentary filmmaker and host of the My Comic Shop History podcast) for "Behind the Mic: The Art and Tech of Podcasting."

Anthony will break down a quartet of key components for a successful podcast: style, hardware, delivery, and marketing. Anthony will guide participants as they develop their show ideas and record demos using actual podcast equipment. Your journey behind the mic begins here!

Anthony Desiato is a lifelong Superman fan, former comic shop employee, attorney, documentary filmmaker, and podcast host. While attending law school, Anthony fulfilled a long-held ambition by turning the camera on Alternate Realities, the New York comic book shop where he worked for more than a decade.

The result, My Comic Shop DocumentARy, screened at film festivals across the country and garnered press in multiple media outlets, including The New York Times. Anthony followed up his debut with the award-winning short By Spoon! The Jay Meisel Story and the feature-length Wacky Man: The Rise of a Puppeteer. He recently conducted a successful Kickstarter campaign for his fourth documentary, 2018's My Comic Shop Country.

As a podcaster, Anthony hosts the shows My Comic Shop History and Flat Squirrel Tales: Beyond My Comic Shop, both of which are available on iTunes.

WestportWRITES is a robust, year-long series designed to take your writing to the next level. Designed to create a support structure along the path to publication, the monthly mini-conferences and workshop-based programming will culminate with a writers’ conference.
