WestportWRITES Mini-Conference: How to Get Published

Sunday, Jan 27, 2019 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM

Kick off the New Year with WestportWRITES! Join literary agent Cynthia Manson and editor Caitlin Alexander for an in-depth look on how to get your work published.

Whether you’re knee-deep in revisions or your New Year’s resolution is to start writing your first book, the process of getting published can seem daunting.

In this interactive discussion, an experienced literary agent and a veteran editor will demystify the process and tell you what you really need to know in order to break into today’s marketplace.

We’ll discuss how to find the right agent for your work (and when you don’t need one), what publishers are looking for, the many different publishing options available, what you can start doing now to build your platform as a writer, and more.

Cynthia Manson is a well-known and respected literary agent with a successful list of published authors. She graduated from Scripps College for Women with a BA in English Literature and Fine Arts. She also attended the Radcliffe Publishing Course and two years later joined the Sterling Lord Literary Agency. Manson has worked in both magazine and book publishing, including for Putnam, Bertelsmann, Scientific American and Advertising Age magazine.

Caitlin Alexander has been editing books for more than fifteen years. She spent much of that time at Random House, where she acquired and edited New York Times bestsellers in fiction and nonfiction. She continues to edit bestselling and award-winning books as a freelance editor and can be found at editedbycaitlin.com.

WestportWRITES is a robust, year-long series designed to take your writing to the next level. Designed to create a support structure along the path to publication, the monthly mini-conferences and workshop-based programming will culminate with a writers’ conference.
