On-Camera Acting Workshop for Teens: Grades 8-12

Actress, singer and dancer Alexa Lane leads this on-camera acting intensive workshop which introduces young actors to the skills needed to perform in theatrical productions, commercials, film and television. Topics covered include acting technique, how to approach a script, character development, cold reading and commercial acting. All students will work on-camera and receive a video of their work for review. Grades 8-12. Register online.

Alexa Lane has made it her mission to help others develop their artistic gifts, and live a healthy, joyful life. As a professional dancer, singer, and actress, Alexa performed in a variety of musical theatre, television, and film productions in the United States and Europe. Her credits include: Sweet Charity, Singin’ in the Rain, Sugar Babies, My One and Only, The Runner Stumbles, The Matchmaker, Street Scene and Days of Our Lives.

Alexa is a proud member of the theatrical unions Actors’ Equity Association and SAG-AFTRA. She holds a degree in Liberal Arts with a concentration in Exercise Science and multiple certifications in fitness and wellness. She studied dance in Connecticut and New York and is trained in ballet, jazz, contemporary, tap, and musical theatre. She studied acting at The Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute in New York.

Alexa is the author of two audiobooks on yoga, Illumine and Yoga Breakthrough, and has been featured as a leading expert on Fitness and Wellness both online and on television. She is currently working on Child Evolve, a documentary film about the benefits of yoga and mindfulness for children that she created, directed, and choreographed. Reel Science: "The Blob”

The Westport Library is teaming up with Earthplace to give Westport a new way to look at science. “Reel Science” is a film series that pairs screenings of popular films with science-focused introductions by professionals from the worlds of science and technology. The evening also includes hands-on MakerSpace activities inspired by the film.

In August, we will screen the campy 1958 science fiction classic, The Blob, (1h 26m) starring Steve McQueen. The introduction will explore the science behind meteors. What really happens when a meteor hits the Earth? We will explore a few of the scenarios surrounding space objects colliding with Earth. The evening will include a “Make Your Own Blob” slime-making activity.

If it rains, the program will be inside Earthplace.

Countdown to College: Making the Most of Your Summer

Andrea Graziano, Director of College Advising at International College Counselors, discusses summer activities that admissions officers want to see on your application and summer is a great time to get a jump start on that college planning. Understand the benefits, opportunities and differences of paid jobs, internships, volunteer work, summer school and other summer activities and find out which are the most advantageous. Whether you’re just starting your college journey or you’re applying in the fall, this program will have you covered.

Andrea Graziano is a Director of College Advising at International College Counselors in Connecticut. She graduated with honors from the State University of New York at Stony Brook and received a Master’s Degree from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. She is an award-winning reporter, writer and editor. Ms. Graziano has spent several years working with high school students brainstorming, crafting and editing their college admissions essays, making them one of the strongest components of their college applications. Before joining International College Counselors, Ms. Graziano was the Chief Content Officer for Daily Voice, a network of hyper local news sites covering New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. She was also a trainer and consultant for TAPInto, working closely with young writers to help them improve their skills.

Countdown to College Camp

Spend a week learning about the college application experience, including preparing for campus visits, interviews, and tips on writing your college essay. Also, prepare and learn tips and tricks for the ACT and SAT, as well as take practice tests. Speakers include Bobbi Crocker of Crocker College Consulting, Nancy Arseneault of C2 Education and staff tutors from College Nannies & Tutors. Snacks will be provided. Register online; free.

Bobbi Crocker is an independent educational consultant specializing in the college admissions selection and application process. She a professional member of the Independent Educational Consultants Association (IECA). She conducts many college visits annually and has an in-depth knowledge of the college admissions process. Bobbi worked as a Admissions Reader and member of the admissions committee for Wheaton College. She is an alumni interviewer for Bowdoin College and former chairperson for the Fairfield County Bowdoin Alumni Schools and Interviewing Committee. Prior to consulting, she worked in product marketing and new business development for over twenty years for a Fortune 500 company. Bobbi serves as a member and Co-Chairperson of the Westport Youth Commission. As a mother of two sons who have gone through the college selection process, she personally understands the challenges facing families during this time period.

Nancy Arseneault is the center director at C2 Education of Westport.
