Lanzilotta's exhibit of refuse sculpture is on view in the Library’s Riverwalk Display Case through July 20. Register online for the program.

Meet the winners of the fifth annual Teen Photography Contest which explored the theme of transformation through photography. The entries were judged by local illustrator/photographer and Artist-in-Residence Miggs Burroughs and will be featured in an exhibit in the Riverwalk Hallway through June 29.

Teen Photography Contest: Explore Transformation

Enter the fifth annual Teen Photography Contest. In preparation for the Library’s transformation project, explore transformation through photography. The contest is open to Fairfield County residents in incoming grades 6-12. With a maximum of three photos per student; email high-resolution jpgs to westportteenphoto [at] gmail [dot] com. Photos should be titled with "first name last name" format and numbers if submitting more than one photo (3 max!). Example: "JainaShaw1.jpg"

Entries must be received by Wednesday, May 24. Photographs will be judged by local illustrator/photographer and Artist-in-Residence Miggs Burroughs and will be featured in an exhibit in the Riverwalk Hallway through June 29. Winners will be announced on Monday, June 5 with an award ceremony and art opening will take place Wednesday, June 7 from 6-7 pm.

WestportMAKES: Make a Stop-Motion Movie with Jhonny Parks

Create your own stop-action movie masterpiece with filmmaker Jhonny Parks in this 2-day stop-motion workshop right behind the Library's MakerSpace. Jhonny will show you sculpting, posing, and filming techniques and by the end of the workshop, you'll have a finished film. 

Space is limited, and please be able to come to both sessions. AGES 13 AND UP

Jhonny Parks is a stop-motion animator and filmmaker and he was the Danbury Library's Maker-in-Residence for the month of November.

Join us for the third-annual Maker Madness event for ages 12 through adult!

Do you have what it takes to escape? Put your detective skills to the test and try your hand at three Escape Rooms. 

This year's special event also features maker workshops and lots of hands-on building and creating. Escape the room and learn from dusk-to-dawn in this all night event. Program highlights include:

  • Beat the clock and save the future in our 3 escape rooms!
  • Construct a giant labyrinthian maze through the stacks!
  • Make a stop-motion movie masterpiece!
  • Experiment with new Virtual Reality and compete in our GIANT video game room!
  • Construct your own optical illusions!
  • Create mystifying magic accessories! 
  • Paint with light!
  • Learn how to be the funniest person in the world!
  • Take a walk on the paranormal side!

We’ll have more Maker activities than ever before and a SPECIAL GUEST in Ghost Hunters star Dustin Pari who will take us through an interactive presentation with tales about his paranormal experiences! 

For ages 12 through adult. Midnight pizza party and snacks included.

Volunteers needed; contact agiannini [at] westportlibrary [dot] org. Participation waiver will be required. Register online. Fee, $50 and includes midnight pizza and snacks. (Note: Special fee of $25 for MakerSpace coaches)

Come and make an ornament/door decoration/table decoration with professional costumer C. Delari Johnston in this fun pop-up workshop right behind the Library's MakerSpace!

No registration required--just stop by! Free!

C. Delari Johnston is a freelance theatrical costumer. She has worked on a wide range of projects, from design and construction for community theater at Stamford Theatre Works to regional theater work for Long Wharf Theatre, Sacred HeartUniversity and Ivoryton Playhouse in CT and Glimmerglass Opera in NY to Broadway. She is currently part of the small army of artisans working on the nationally acclaimed Broadway production, "Hamilton."
