LEGO EV3 TinkerShops : Grades 6-8

For students entering Grades 6-8 in fall 2018. Build and program robots with Lego EV3 kits. Projects may include: a music box, silly walk robot, cars, drawing ‘bots, and toys/animals. Participants should bring iphones or android phones to the TinkerShop to control their robots. Grades 6-8.

This is a free program for those who attend. Because we are able to admit only a limited number of students, you will be charged $30 upon registration. Enter the 6th annual Teen Photography Contest! This year’s theme is “Portraits of Westport.” What represents Westport to you? A picture of the Saugatuck River? An image of a tamale from the Farmer’s Market? Or maybe a photo of your grandmother? Whatever Westport means to you, capture it in a photograph and share it with us!

This contest is open to Fairfield County residents in incoming grades 6-12 (excluding recent graduates). Please fill out our submission form online and email high-resolution* jpgs to westportteenphoto [at] gmail [dot] com. Photos should be titled with "first name last name" format and numbers if submitting more than one photo. Example: "JaneDoe1.jpg.” Maximum of three photographs per student. Winners will be judged by local professional photographer Pamela Einarsen.

Submission deadline is Saturday, July 14. Winners will be notified by Tuesday, July 24 and will be featured in an art show at the Suzuki Music School. The opening reception and awards ceremony will take place at the Suzuki Music School (246 Post Road East, Westport) on Thursday, July 26 from 5-6 pm. The exhibit will be on display from July 26-September 6.

*To submit high-res images from your phone, choose “Actual Size” when emailing. For digital cameras, choose “JPEG-Large” and set the image quality at “FINE.”

Meet Eisner Award-winner Franco and Eisner-nominated artist Sara Richard and check out their new book, The Ghost, The Owl

Our MakerSpace will also be on hand for Family Maker Sunday focused on making your own comics. We'll use Lego Story Starter software to combine Legos building with comics writing to create cool digital comics! 

And as a special treat, swing by early to pick up free comic books from DC, Marvel, and others! (While supplies last.)

Franco has filled his life with all things art related! He has also worked on critically acclaimed series like SUPERMAN FAMILY ADVENTURES, SUPER POWERS and the New York Times bestseller, multi Eisner award winning series TINY TITANS for DC Comics! He is the proud owner of AW YEAH COMICS publishing and retail stores featuring ACTION CAT and ADVENTURE BUGAuthor, illustrator of the popular DINO-MIKE chapter book series! Franco has worked for DARK HORSE COMICS, ARCHIE COMICS, IDW, ACTION LAB ENTERTAINMENT, CARTOON NETWORK as well as others.

 

 

 

Credits of Sara Ricahrd's past work are the kid’s book from Yen Press, “Kitty and Dino” which was nominated for a 2013 Eisner Award (Best Publication for Young Readers). She has been steadily working on variant covers for the My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic comic series from IDW. She has also contributed interior art to a couple Pony tales. Other work from IDW includes covers for Jem and The Holograms and an interior story for Ghostbusters. She is the illustrator of the DC Collectables’ Justice League Tarot Card Set and has done variant covers for Marvel’s Deadpool, Dynamite’s Bob’s Burgers and Oni Press’ Rick and Morty
