Sewing with Machines 101: Ages 10 & Up

Ages 10 & up, come to one session (either Wednesday, January 24 from 6-7:30 pm OR Saturday, January 27 from 12-1:30 pm).
Learn basic sewing machine techniques with a simple project like a stuffed animal, a drawstring backpack, a pillow or a pencil/tool roll pouch. Workshops conducted by freelance theatrical costumer, C. Delari Johnston.  Bring your own machine or use one of 3 provided by the Westport Library. Register for ONE session and indicate whether you want to use one of the Library sewing machines (limit of 3). Ages 10 & up

She has worked on a wide range of projects, from design and construction for community theater at Stamford Theatre Works to regional theater work for Long Wharf Theatre, Sacred Heart University and Ivoryton Playhouse in CT and Glimmerglass Opera in NY to Broadway. She was most recently part of the small army of artisans working on the nationally acclaimed Broadway production, "Hamilton".

Tinkershop: Sock Puppetry for Grades 6-8

Join master puppeteer Karen Bruce in this 4-day program to create a puppet show, including assembling sock puppets, developing the skit and filming the show. Every participant will take home his/her puppet. Karen has been doing puppet focused programs and workshops for the last 15 years and earned a BFA in puppetry from the University of CT. Grades 6-8

Tinkershops: Fiber Arts Potpourri for Grades 3-5

Explore different fiber arts such as silk screen, weave, sew and make hand puppets. Participants will learn basic stitching and other fiber arts skills. Register online for this 4-day program; free with $30 refundable deposit required. Grades 3-5; limit 12.

Try the new HTC Vive headset, a new and striking Virtual Reality experience! While Oculus Rift users are encouraged to sit down when using that hardware, the Vive promises to be more of an interactive experience that is reminiscent of Nintendo’s Wii video gaming platform. The HTC Vive allows you to move around and physically interact with your virtual environment.

Silk Screen Halloween T-Shirts

Learn how to use Silhouette die cutting machines to quickly silkscreen prints onto fabric. These very versatile cutting machines can perform many tasks for the DIYer. In preparation for Halloween, create a Halloween themed t-shirt using your original printed images or design one in the silhouette software itself. For ages 10 years through adult; children 8-9 years ONLY with parent/guardian supervision during the class. Limit 12 participants

Instructor Kristal Fran is the current vice-president at the Fairfield County Makers Guild in Norwalk, CT. With a background in digital quality assurance and network administration, she brings art aspects to the Makers Guild.

This same program is offered on two dates:

Participants MUST bring two PLAIN t-shirts to silkscreen.
