TinkerShop: Create a Comic Book; Grades 6-9

Create a comic with Gregg Schigiel, creator of graphic novel Pix, a regular contributor to SpongeBob Comics, penciller and assistant editor at Marvel Comics, and illustrator. Working with a simple story framework, participants will create their own two-page comics—storyline, illustration and dialogue. Come learn with a pro! 

The project is cumulative; please attend for all 3 days. Register online for this free program for those who attend. Because of the limited number of students, you will be charged $30 upon registration. Gregg Schigiel's worked as a penciller and assistant editor at Marvel Comics, character artist for Nickelodeon Consumer Products, and has illustrated of a litany of licensed story/chapter/coloring books. He is a regular contributor to SpongeBob Comics. In 2014, he self-published (under his Hatter Entertainment imprint) Pix: One Weirdest Weekend, the first of a series now published by Image Comics.

In addition to making comics, Gregg produces and hosts the comics-centric podcast Stuff Said and produces and co-hosts the Tom Cruise movie-centric podcast "Cruisin’ Together”. He likes doughnuts, enjoys comedy, and makes sure he drinks plenty of water.

Advanced LEGO EV3/NXT Robotics Club, Grades 4-8

Build and program robots with Lego EV3 or Lego NXT kits with staff from CompuChild. Projects may include: a music box, silly walk robot, cars, drawing ‘bots, and toys/animals.

LEGO MINDSTORMS Education EV3 Core Set is a hands-on, cross-curricular STEM solution that engages students by providing the resources to design, build and program their creations while helping them develop essential skills such as creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, and communication.

There are many ways to tell a story. Create mini books with paper, scissors, glue and thread in a variety of shapes for quick personal storytelling. Designs may include infinity storybooks, flip books, and expandable books. All ages. Drop in.

Please bring in wrapping paper scraps if you have it to expand the cover art choices.
