Imagine 2108 Projects Due
Students are asked to imagine the architecture, services, jobs, social events, programs and more of the Library in 2108.  Draw it, paint it, or create it.  All final entries must be submitted in PowerPoint.  Check the Library website for details or call 291-4810. Click here to learn more.

APRIL

April 6              Sunday
COMMUNITY WIDE CELEBRATION
Get your Westport Public Library passport at the door on Sunday, April 6, and join in the festivities when the Library throws a party to celebrate its 100th year. With co-chairs of the party, Julie Belaga and Karen Wolfe at the helm, festivities include jugglers, puppets, music spanning over 100 years, break dancers, stories, crafts, art exhibits, displays and more for children and adults of all ages.  Be sure to stop and sign the book that said you were here for the celebration! 1:00 to 5:00 pm.

Malloy Lecture in the Arts with Vartan Gregorian
Vartan Gregorian will be the speaker at the 6th Annual Malloy Lecture in the Arts.  Gregorian is the twelfth president of the Carnegie Corporation of New York and former president of the New York Public Library.  Bedford Middle School. 7:30 pm. MAY

Mark Twain was born on November 30, 1835. He moved from Hartford to
“Stormfield,” his new home in Redding, Connecticut on June 18, 1908,
just a few months after the Library opened in Westport. The SpokenWord@the Library will present a series of lectures on Mark Twain.  SpokenWord is sponsored by Jerry A. Tishman. Click here to learn more about the Mark Twain Lecture Series on the Emergence of the American Voice.

SO YOU WANT TO TELL YOUR STORY
Beverly Sanders, stage, television and film actor, writer and director, will conduct a writing workshop that will encourage participants to write their memories of their library experiences.  The workshop promises to be stimulating and entertaining. McManus Room. Two sessions: 10:00 am and 7:30 pm. Register for each session beginning June 1. More about Beverly Sanders.

WESTPORT CONTINUING EDUCATION ALTERED BOOK WORKSHOP

THE IMPORTANCE OF BOOKS
Author Stephen L. Carter, will speak about the importance of books.  Carter helped shape the national debate on issues ranging from the role of religion in American political culture to the impact of integrity and civility on our daily lives. Altered book projects will be auctioned off with proceeds going to the Library.

SEE YOU IN 100 YEARS
Author Logan Ward takes a fascinating step back in time in his book See You in 100 Years: Four Seasons in America.  Ward and his wife faced a steep learning curve when they abandoned harried, technology-driven lives for a year in the country as it was a century ago.
