  • 1 pm: Rally 'Round the Flag, Boys: Based on the novel written by Westporter Max Shulman and set in Westport, it is about a fictional community battling the construction of a missile silo. There is a public outcry, lead by Grace Bannerman (Joanne Woodward), a regular on local committees. She convinces her husband, Harry (Paul Newman), to head to Washington, D.C., to talk to the military. (1958, 1h 46m)

  • 3 pm: Long Hot Summer: Accused barn burner and con man Ben Quick (Paul Newman) arrives in a small Mississippi town and quickly ingratiates himself with civic leader Will Varner (Orson Welles), who decides Ben might be just the man for his daughter, Clara (Joanne Woodward). (1958, 1h 55m)

WILL THE LIBRARY BE OPEN DURING FLEX?

The Westport Library will be closed for typical library patron use from Monday, March 19 through Saturday, March 24. During this period Library staff will continue to offer reference and account support by phone for adults and children from Monday through Friday from 9 am-5 pm. Our digital services will also be available 24/7 at westportlibrary.org. The collection will not be accessible during these days however patrons will be able to pick up their holds and ILLs in the lobby at the following days & times:

Monday, March 19: 9-12 pm 
Wednesday, March 21: 3-5 pm 
Thursday, March 22: 3-5 pm ONLY (no morning hours due to the weather)
Friday, March 23: 3-5 pm

The Library will be fully open on Sunday, March 25 from 10 am-5 pm. The café will also be open during this time on Sunday.

We will be accepting book donations on Monday, March 19, and Tuesday, March 20. The digital library is available 24/7 at westportlibray.org.
