Charlie Wilson’s War was directed by Mike Nichols and was written by Aaron Sorkin of “West Wing” fame. Tom Hanks stars as a U.S. Representative from Texas who manages to start a war for all the wrong reasons. It’s a brilliant satire of national politics. With Julia Roberts and Seymour Philip Hoffman, who was nominated for Best Supporting Actor (2007, 100 mins.)

The Tall Blond Man With One Black Shoe is the story of a mild-mannered violinist who is chosen by the French Secret Service to act as a decoy in a major sting. The film is exciting and hilarious. Named one of the “Best Foreign films of the Year” by the U.S. National Board of Review. (In French with English subtitles.1972, 90 mins.)

In Norma Rae, Sally Field is a textile worker who agrees to help unionize her mill without weighing the dangers. Beau Bridges and Ron Leibman try to help, but the situation is both a problem and a joy. Fields won the Best Actress Oscar as did the song written for the film. You won’t forget the feisty heroine’s struggles and successes. (1979, 114 mins.)

Son of SaulIn Son of Saul, a Hungarian Jewish worker ( at the Auschwitz concentration camp is forced to assist the Nazis in the machinery of large-scale extermination. While working in one of the crematoriums, he discovers the body of a young boy he takes as his son. As the other inmates plan a rebellion, Saul decides to carry out an impossible task—to save the child's body from the flames, find a rabbi to recite the mourner's Kaddish and offer the boy a proper burial. Won the Oscar for the Best Foreign Language Film.
