It's Summer Reading Challenge time! June 1 marks the start of our fifth annual summer reading program designed especially for adults. We have 25 categories of books (the categories will be revealed on June 1) and you get to read a book for as many of them as you want! Once you’ve read a book that fulfills a category, you can submit it via the form on our Summer Reading Challenge website and keep track of your progress on our leaderboard.
There are only two rules to the Summer Reading Challenge: categories may only be fulfilled once and each book can only be used for one category.
Why should you join the challenge? Well, mostly because it is super fun! This is what folks last year said:
I love the challenges because they encourage me to read books I never would have read otherwise. - Amy S
So much fun! And you can play virtually! Jump in! - Valerie A
I am ready! I haven’t ready anything recently due to work and photography- but I am ready and this is the challenge I needed- so thank you! - Jackie G
But if you need another reason, reading is also good for your health! According to the medically reviewed article 5 Ways Reading Benefits your Health — and How to Make Reading a Daily Habit by Lia Tabackman:
Finally, if you are a parent, you can join the challenge to model for your kids! According to 5 Ways to Be a Reading Role Model by Allison McDonald: "When your children see you reading you are telling them that reading is fun, that it's something worth spending your time doing, and that it's a normal and expected part of your day. Children who see their parents read for pleasure are more likely to read for fun themselves."
