POSTPONED: Explore China Through Dance & Music

March 15, 2020 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm EDT

Note to Patrons: With the news from Governor Lamont related to the Coronavirus and meetings or gatherings, the Westport Library has decided to postpone or cancel its in-person programming for the month of March. We are currently in conversation with several of the speakers scheduled for this month to see if it is possible to provide some programs via live streaming on our website. Please check the website regularly for updates on rescheduling of in-person events or for dates and times of livestreamed events.

Explore China's diverse regions and ethnic groups through music and dance. This performance will include a mischievous lion, classical songs played by traditional Chinese instruments and lively renditions of the award-winning red ribbon dance performed by artists from New York Chinese Cultural Center.

This concert compliments the year-long study of Chinese culture and arts in the public schools. Through its annual Global Arts Initiative, the Westport Public Schools Music & Visual Art Department selects a specific global culture and partners with community and various school disciplines to provide students with the opportunity to increase their understanding of the diversity and uniqueness of global cultures.

New York Chinese Cultural Center is a cultural and educational institution dedicated to promoting the understanding and appreciation of Chinese arts in local and global communities since 1974. For over four decades, NYCCC has offered professional quality classes, workshops, and performances in Chinese traditional dance, visual arts and culture through our School of the Arts, Arts-In-Education program, and public and private engagements. NYCCC has performed in 26 states and our programs reach over 100,000 people every year. Dance China New York, our resident professional dance company, performs works that span across all categories of Chinese dance including folk, classical, and modern dance to preserve the Chinese cultural heritage while staying relevant today. NYCCC has been featured on nationally televised programs such as the National Geographic Today, the 73rd Annual Academy Awards and the PBS special The Chinese Americans. Our students and teachers have been invited to audition for America’s Got Talent. Our former students currently perform in Cirque Du Soleil’s KÀ and on TV shows like ABC’s Quantico.
