Summer should be about having FUN. More than ever, kids need to try new things, explore, learn in the real world, and meet and interact with friends. Summer Distance Learning Clubs do just that. Students will directly interact with their peers and teachers through a variety of technology platforms. The clubs focus on real life learning, our small group instruction will be provided in a 1:4 teacher to student ratio. We will begin as a whole group and then “breakout” into “rooms” with fewer students to provide more personalized instruction and discussion. The groups are facilitated by experienced K-8 certified teachers.
Math clubs meet to explore math concepts. Each week we will look deeply at math stories to explore the why and how math works. We will use problem solving to teach math skills. Each session a real world problem will be posed to the group, then students will work collaboratively to develop strategies and multiple models to find solutions to the problem. Through discussion students will articulate their understanding of the math involved. Additional problems will be provided to work on following the session. An interactive platform will be used for students to continue to engage and communicate about math. While this description remains the same for each week of math club, the problems presented and group of math skills used to solve that problem will differ.
