Piece by Piece: An Art Project by the Artists Collective of Westport

The Westport Library presents Piece by Piece, a companion exhibit to the 2-part Community exhibits also on view in the Sheffer and Jesup Galleries. These exhibits are a partnership with the Library and the Artists Collective of Westport as they present their first live, all-member exhibits since December 2019. Piece by Piece is located in the South Gallery
Piece by Piece is a grid comprised of 60 unique 12-inch squares assembled to make one image: each square is a small part of a beautiful whole and is the work of 60 individual Artists Collective members. Each artist received a 12”x12” blank panel along with a six-inch square section randomly selected from a single iconic painting. The participating artists each created an individual piece, replicating a part of the larger painting in their own style - without knowing what the final painting would look like until it is revealed when the exhibit opens to the public on July 10th.
The concept for “Piece by Piece” is an artistic response to how our worlds shrank as we locked down in our homes during the global pandemic. The 60 small, unique pieces will be reassembled to create one large whole, representing the coming back together of our community, and serving as a reminder of the larger community of humanity to which we all belong.
To add to the excitement, the 12x12 pieces are available for purchase via a special online event. For a donation of $100, individuals can select one “mystery artist” box from an online grid, with 50% of the proceeds supporting the library’s art programs. The Artists Collective of Westport is a vibrant group of 150 creative individuals who have joined forces to discuss, create, and develop dynamic experiences for the Fairfield Coup nty community. The Collective is open to all active artists in pursuit of expanding their careers and in developing a strong, diverse arts community
