As part of WestportREADS and to celebrate Women’s History Month, the Center for Senior Activities will host a high tea. This year marks the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th amendment and the town of Westport has many events planned to celebrate this historic event with WestportREADS. After 1848, when the suffrage movement began, women such as the wealthy Alva Vanderbilt–Belmont held “suffrage teas,” where support for the cause was proclaimed. The tea parties also served as fundraisers for the cause. Women often wore a white blouse or dressed entirely in white. Hats are optional.
Limit: 50 people.
Pre–registration with the Center for Senior Activities and payment is required.
WestportREADS is funded by the generosity of Jerry A. Tishman through a bequest from his estate.
