Write Here: Westport — A Community Placemaking and Writing Project

Thursday, Aug 1, 2019 - Saturday, Aug 31, 2019

Writing teacher and Westport’s own Jan Bassin joins the Library in August as Maker-in-Residence for a community writing project that will turn all of Westport into a laboratory for writing.

Write Here: Westport is a community placemaking and writing project that will take place throughout the month of August. Each day, a different spot in the community will host a one-hour write-in, led by Bassin. The events are designed for writers of all ages and all levels of writing experience, and they celebrate all of the defining places that make Westport unique.

Each Write Here: Westport event will begin with a special, brief introduction to the day’s location, followed by a quick free-write using that location as our writing prompt. Each event will culminate with an opportunity to share and listen to others’ responses. Attend all of the events. Or just attend a few. All Write Here: Westport events are designed to be inclusive and fun.

The month kicks off on Thursday, August 1 at 12 p.m. in the Westport Library’s Forum space led by Bassin and special guest writer, Dan Woog. Throughout the month, Write Here: Westport will hold write-ins in destinations within the transformed Library.

WRITE HERE: WESTPORT Calendar of Events

If you are unable to attend any of the write-ins at their scheduled time, you are encouraged to visit any of the parfticipating places at any point in the month to write and share as part of "Write Here: Westport"

What is Placemaking?

Placemaking “inspires people to collectively reimagine and reinvent public spaces as the heart of every community. Strengthening the connection between people and the places they share, placemaking . . . . shows people just how powerful their collective vision can be. It helps them to re-imagine everyday spaces . . . .”  -- Project for Public Spaces
