The Westport Library (the “Library”) maintains exhibition spaces to allow individuals, groups and entities the opportunity to show their work (the “Artwork”) for the community’s education, enrichment, entertainment and enjoyment.
The Executive Director of the Library shall establish an Exhibition Committee (the "Art Committee") and communicate its composition to the Library Board of Trustees (the "Board"). The composition of the Art Committee shall be at the discretion of the Executive Director, who also will appoint a member of the Library staff to serve as the Library's Exhibition Curator (the "Curator"). The Curator will cooperate with the Art Committee regarding exhibitions, receiving suggestions and guidance, and will make recommendations for the selection of exhibitions to the Library Director, who has sole discretion for exhibit approval.
All proposals for exhibitions shall first be made to the Library’s Curator. All proposals shall be submitted in writing and include a description of the exhibition, and photographs, if appropriate.
The Curator shall be responsible for maintaining exhibit procedures, including but not limited to the number and arrangement of items to be displayed, and the length of the exhibition.
All exhibitions shall be offered to the Library at no cost to the Library. All exhibited items shall be temporarily lent under the terms and conditions set out in the Library’s Exhibition Agreement.
The Library permits individuals and groups to exhibit in the Library accordance with Article VI of the Library Bill of Rights of the American Library Association without bias, prejudice or discrimination. Thus, the fact that a person or group is permitted to exhibit does not constitute an endorsement by the Library of the views of the person or group.
The Library Board of Trustees reserves the right to amend this Art Exhibitions Policy at any time. Adopted by the Library Board of Trustees July 19, 2019
