Where Westport Meets the World: Charles Mallory, Owner & CEO of Delamar Hotels

Westport’s own Dan Woog brings his popular blog “06880: Where Westport Meets the World” to life, via the Verso Studios at The Westport Library – recorded LIVE in the Trefz Forum!

His guest this week is Charles Mallory, founder of Greenwich Hospitality Group and owner and CEO of Delamar Hotels. Mallory’s entrepreneurial spirit runs in the family, with a rich history dating back 200 years to another groundbreaking Charles Mallory — one who took root in Mystic as an apprentice sailmaker in 1816 and gradually amassed wealth that allowed him to establish his own shipyard. Generations of Mallory men have followed in his footsteps, building whaling ships, schooners, yachts, and more.

With his family roots in the shipping industry, the current Charles Mallory set his sights on reinventing a 1960s coastal motel in his hometown of Greenwich, Connecticut. Since 2002, the transformed Delamar Greenwich Harbor Hotel has been an anchor in the Connecticut landscape. This undertaking spurred the birth of the Greenwich Hospitality Group, which includes a portfolio of similarly stylish properties in towns like Southport and West Hartford.

Coming full circle, Mallory went back to his roots, bringing a new Delamar Hotel location to Mystic in 2024. That same year, he also brought Delamar to Westport, a town he referred to as “one of the crown jewels of Connecticut’s Gold Coast.”
