Where Westport Meets the World: Ian O'Malley, NY Radio Legend

Ian O’Malley is the DJ who introduced Nirvana to New York. Van Halen brought him and his wife together. He appears in the film ‘School of Rock’ alongside Jack Black, as well as the TV show ‘Big Brother,’ and has been a mainstay of the tristate radio scene for nearly 30 years. Now he’s the latest guest on Dan Woog’s podcast, a Verso Studios production that brings to life his popular blog, “06880: Where Westport Meets the World” — recorded LIVE in The Westport Library’s Trefz Forum! O’Malley is now in his 26th year at Q104.3, New York’s classic rock station, after previously spending a decade at the legendary 102.7 WNEW-FM. He also worked as a VJ for VH1 during the network’s heyday in the mid-1990s. Along the way, he has lent his voice to national campaigns for brands including Burger King and Saab, appeared in films and television — from his role as a record executive in School of Rock’ to guest appearances on ‘Law & Order: SVU’ and ‘Criminal Intent’. A longtime Westport resident, O’Malley also continues to work in real estate for friends, family, and select clients, balancing his many creative pursuits with deep ties to the local community.
