Westport’s own Dan Woog brings his popular blog “06880: Where Westport Meets the World” to life, via the Verso Studios at The Westport Library – recorded LIVE in the Trefz Forum! His guest this week is Rick Benson, longtime Westport Rotary member and president of real estate development & construction firm RB Benson & Co. With a multi-faceted history of achievement, Benson founded his firm in 1981 and has successfully completed more than 60 single-family new homes in Fairfield County. In 2021, Benson was the winner of three HOBI awards from the CT Home Building Industry, as well as a Historic Preservation Award for his two-year renovation/restoration of Greens Farms Church in 2023. Benson has also been Westport Rotarian for 34 years and has been recognized many times for his leadership and work with the Rotary Foundation. A Vietnam combat veteran and Naval Lieutenant aboard the USS Hamner, he also served as logistics advisor for Destroyer Squadron 37 in the Pacific. Honored for community service, Benson gives generously of his time and expertise in many capacities. Whenever something needs to get done, needs a volunteer effort or volunteer organizer, he steps up to get the job done. His involvement spans local politics (Planning and Zoning, Conservation Commission, Board of Finance), extensive involvement in Rotary International, Greens Farms Congregational Church, Boy Scouts, Westport-Weston Family Y, United Way, Special Olympics, Compo Beach playground, and more.
