Artist Statement

As Latin artists, we carry with us the colors and the images of our childhood and youth. From the abstract world of city spaces to the abundantly green outdoors, it enveloped us growing up, and slipped into our very being as artists.

Friends and fellow artists for several years, our idea for "Latin Colors" aims to show the evolution of artistic activity of Latin American artists in the local context.

The particular use of color is perhaps the greatest connection between our works, this is shown in the topics we address such as magical realism, pop culture, music, etc., which are affected by our perception of color and also by the different influences on our artistic development.

About the Artist

Born in Bogota, Columbia, Hernan Garcia received a bachelor's degree in both architecture and fine arts. He pursued further education at Scuola per L'arte E II restauro Di Firenze, Italy, and continued studying semiotics in Milan. After some years teaching and writing in the academy in Bogota, he emigrated to the USA in 2000, living and working in Florida, New York, and Connecticut. Hernan's work includes paintings, drawings, and other 3D mediums, which have been exhibited in solo and group shows in galleries and art fairs throughout the United States, Europe, and Latin America. His work can be found in both public, corporate, and private collections. He also writes articles on the theories of art, music, and contemporary art with a particular focus on communication and art history.

Leonor Dao is a Venezuelan-born artist and illustrator based in Westport, CT. She studied Literature and Art at Universidad Andrés Bello in Caracas and taught art for four years before moving to New York in 1996, where she earned a degree from Parsons School of Design and a BFA in Animation from the School of Visual Arts. She has illustrated children’s books, teaches art to children and adults, and exhibits locally as a member of the Artists Collective of Westport. Her work blends imagination and observation, with an introspective, whimsical spirit.
