Artist Statement

Lonny Kalfus: As I began to segue from corporate work to fine art photography, I began to experiment with different films and processing techniques. The images in this exhibit were all shot with a technique called 'cross process'. Its value is the rich saturated color, resulting from ways to use this mode, filtration... processing a positive image in negative developer... shooting outdoors added to the challenge. I spent a lot of time adjusting to the complexities. The intense colors and shadows achieved were my reward. Eventually, this and other innovative techniques led to many interesting projects with some of the finest graphic designers and corporations in the business along with subjects from around the globe.

Maj Kalfus: My work is diverse in subject matter, technique, and materials. I am often drawn to a subject; explore it for some time and then move on. My materials include oils, acrylics, pastel, collage, graphite, ink, and anything else I can experiment with. Throughout my artistic journey, figurative subjects have been my preferred creative language. As a medium, my current passion has been collage. Like a puzzle, I enjoy diving into a sea of ephemera and watch an image emerge.
