Government funding pays roughly 80% of the Library’s operating expenses. For the rest of our funding, and to continue to grow the Library as a community resource for all, we depend on support from generous donors like you to help keep our books, classes, programs, and more.
Since 1886, The Westport Library has been devoted to enriching the intellectual and creative lives of the community. Situated in the heart of downtown Westport overlooking the scenic Saugatuck River, the Library is a vibrant community hub where people of all ages come to seek information, gain knowledge, exchange ideas, and share experiences.
In all the Library does and offers, we strive to provide a warm, welcoming destination where individuals read and research, shop the store, meet friends at the Library Café, or simply enjoy the camaraderie of being in a shared space. There’s never been more to learn or more to discover.

Events offer a unique way to experience the Library: Join us for our signature Booked for the Evening celebration, The Exchange discussing the issues of our times, our semiannual book sale, and all the other great events happening year-round at the Library.
Contributions to events are tax-deductible and all proceeds ensure that we continue to advance The Westport Library’s mission.
The Annual Fund supports the programs, materials, and services that keep the Library at the center of the community’s intellectual life. Gifts at all levels are welcome. Your participation in the Annual Fund helps the Library to serve our patrons with more than 2,000 programs and special events each year. The Annual Fund also helps us renew our book collections and online databases, run innovative children’s and teen programs, and provide patrons with the newest and best technologies.
