Steam Academy

Use design and engineering thinking to construct catapults that can launch pompoms as far as possible. Learn about the real-life function and purpose of catapults, potential energy, levers, and measuring distance. Working in teams, students will design, test, and refine their catapults to see who can build the most effective launcher.

Ponus Ridge Steam Academy is a magnet STEAM-based middle school that uses Steam, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics as access points for guiding student inquiry, dialogue, and critical thinking. The end results are students who take thoughtful risks, engage in experiential learning, persist in problem-solving, embrace collaborations, and work through the creative process. These are the innovators, educators, leaders, and learners of future generations.

This is a three-day program that takes place on April 14, 15 & 16. One ticket per attendee covers all three days.

Trefz Forum

Join us for a Make & Break engineering workshop!  Participants will use a variety of materials and tools to build your own contraptions and spectacular chain reactions.

This program is designed for elementary school children.  Families with younger children require adult attendance. All ages welcome. Registration required.

For thousands of years, Indigenous communities in North America have been using various fibers to make and decorate everything from shelter, to fishing equipment, to clothing and works of art. Join an expert educator from the Institute for American Indian Studies to learn more about Native American history and culture while you make your very own woven projects out of natural materials.

This is a cumulative program; participants are requested to attend both days.
