Data Collection and Usage

Our data collection practices are designed with respect to the Library’s Privacy Policy. Data are collected using community-centered methods that reflect our commitment to privacy in the following ways:

  • We collect data only with the informed consent of the patron providing it.
  • We collect data in service of specific learning objectives related to our community and with the goal of creating more impactful programs and services. Data collected voluntarily from patrons avoids personally identifiable information (PII).
  • We collect data from multiple sources, and aggregate and analyze the data for a holistic view.
  • We gather and analyze data without discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, national origin, age, disability, or any other protected characteristic under applicable law. Information collected by the Library will not be collected in a way that discriminates against any individual or group, nor will the data be used to reduce or restrict access and use by all patrons.
  • We uphold the Library Bill of Rights and its commitment to patron privacy and confidentiality, and the right of patrons to access and use a library without restriction. For additional questions, please contact Tory Donohue at tdonohue@westportlibrary.org
