What is the difference between the Wednesday Walk-In Career Support Group and the Tuesday Workshops? The Walk-In Career Support Group is an informal, unstructured session where you can drop in without an appointment and receive personalized feedback on resumes, interviews, or general career advice. The Tuesday Workshops, on the other hand, are structured events that focus on specific career topics, such as goal setting, salary negotiation, or using technology and AI in your job search. While both provide valuable support, the Walk-In group is more flexible, while the Tuesday Workshops dive deeper into specific skills.
Why have Career Services transitioned from 1:1 support to group services? Due to increased demand and limited capacity, we have transitioned to offering group services. We believe that networking and peer support play a critical role in job searches, and group settings provide a great opportunity for participants to connect, share experiences, and learn from one another. Additionally, group services allow us to provide support to more people and focus on the most effective strategies for career development.
Do I need to register for the Walk-In Career Support Group or Tuesday Workshops? While registration is not required, it is highly encouraged for both the Wednesday Walk-In Career Support Group and Tuesday Workshops. Registration helps us prepare for the session and ensures that we can provide the best support possible and can communicate changes if needed. For the Walk-In group, registering in advance allows us to tailor the session to your specific needs, while for the Tuesday Workshops, it ensures there are enough materials and resources for all attendees.
Are the Career Services programs open to everyone, or do I need to be a patron of The Westport Library? Our career services programs are open to the public. You are welcome to join regardless of your background, residence, or current employment status. We welcome individuals at all stages of their career journey — from those just entering the workforce to those looking to make a career change or advance in their current field. Whether you're actively job hunting, exploring new opportunities, or seeking professional development, our services are here to support you. You DO NOT have to be a patron of The Westport Library to attend.
What should I expect to gain from attending the networking groups and workshops? By attending our networking groups and workshops, you can expect to gain valuable insights, practical tools, and a supportive environment that will help you move forward in your career. Networking groups allow you to build meaningful professional connections, while workshops provide you with in-depth knowledge on topics like goal setting, salary negotiation, and optimizing your job search using technology. Overall, our goal is to help you develop the skills, confidence, and network needed to achieve your career goals.
How can I contact the career coach, and do you offer 1:1 sessions? At this time, 1:1 sessions are not offered due to limited capacity and scheduling constraints caused by high demand. The best way to contact career coach Tarin Evans is via email. We encourage you to take advantage of our group sessions, as they provide excellent opportunities for feedback, career advice, and professional development in a supportive group setting.
