Africa: A Close Encounter Photographs by Bill Balch and Larry Untermeyer

Located in the Library's South Gallery, “Africa: A Close Encounter” is an exhibit of photographs of Tanzania by long-time friends, fellow Y’s Men, and traveling buddies, Bill Balch and Larry Untermeyer. Balch and Untermeyer are enjoying their senior years traveling together on photo expeditions, first to Greece in 2017, then on a river cruise from Budapest to Amsterdam in 2018,and later, spent two weeks in Tanzania, driving through the Serengeti Nature Reserve and the Ngorongoro Crater. They brought back over 7,600 images that captured virtually all the major mammals and many birds native to these places.
