Journey into a world of your own making with a fresh and engaging twist on the traditional Choose Your Own Adventure! This two-day workshop is an interactive fiction building activity where kids in grades 6-8 will create their own stories and turn them into a digital adventure game of choice (e.g. "If you open the door, turn to page 5, or if you choose to turn around, turn to page 7"). Students will learn how to use the beginner-friendly software Twine, where complex story webs can be mapped out in incredibly fun ways to navigate.

The purpose of this program is to make literacy and writing an engaging experience, especially in this digital era where most students rarely read out of class time or read in tandem with personal enjoyment. This class will teach the development of a complex plot that is required for both reading and writing, combined with an interactive element. An experienced local high school creator will be leading the class, ensuring that the kids can learn in a fun, peer-mentored environment. Students will have the opportunity to share (and play) one another’s stories to conclude the class.

Students will need to bring their own laptops.

Registration is required. Students must attend both days of the workshop.
