Covid Chronicles: Book Launch and Celebration
Celebrate the book launch of Covid Chronicles, the compiled diaries of The Westport Library Advanced Writing class coping with the COVID-19 pandemic. There will be readings from participating authors and insight from the book's editors, Mary-Lou Weisman and Gina Ryan. Refreshments will be served.
These Covid Chronicles follows the unfolding of the pandemic over the course of seven months preceded by the whisperings of the spreading virus in January and February 2020. These tales trace the sudden lockdown in March, hospitalizations in April, supply chain shortages in May, a slow reopening in June, cautious celebrations in July, a hurricane in August, and a hybrid back to school schedule in September.
Canceled classes, deaths of parents and pets, family tragedies, strained relationships, racial injustices, postponed weddings, and Zoomed memorial services all colored traditional holiday celebrations and family get-togethers, and in some instances, fueled political outrage.
