Drawings in the Desert: Author Reading and Activity

April 14, 2025 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm EDT

Komansky Room

For the entire family

Local author Michaela MacColl will be at the Library to read from her first picture book, Lady of the Lines: How Maria Saved the Nazca Lines by Sweeping the Desert. Join us in the Komansky Room to meet her and sweep your own geoglyph!

Lady of the Lines is about Maria Reiche, an amateur archeologist who spent 40 years sweeping the Nazca geoglyphs in Peru. Written by Michaela MacColl and illustrated by Elise Chavarri, a Peruvian-American artist, Kirkus reviews calls the book "an engaging narrative is part process story and part biography ... an inspiring portrait of scientific dedication." School Library Journal thinks that kids will find Maria to be their new favorite obsession.
