Andrew Wilk Presents The Westport Library Medical Series: Tick-Borne Illness and Other Summer Health Hazards

The Westport Library and Andrew Wilk are pleased to continue the Westport Library Medical Series, offering an opportunity for the community to learn about important medical issues.
Dr. Robert Altbaum, a longtime Westport internist will moderate each session and introduce experts in the fields under discussion. Each discussion will provide a general review as well as state of the art updates on the topic. There will always be time provided for questions from the audience. We hope it provides both practical and thought-provoking information that can help individuals navigate the complex world of medicine.
The upcoming group of lectures will focus on medical problems of the outdoor Westport summer experience.
Dr. Zane Saul, an infectious disease specialist, with an active practice in Stratford. will focus on everyone’s greatest summer fear, tick borne illness. Lyme, babesiosis, and anaplasmosis will be reviewed, with special emphasis on Lyme disease.
Dr. Altbaum will discuss common hazards of summer, mosquito bites, bee stings, and sunburns. How to prevent and treat these problems. If time allows heat related illness will also be reviewed.
This event is presented in partnership with the Aspetuck Health District.
About the Speakers
Dr. Robert Altbaum is a recently retired physician who practiced as an Internist in Westport for 40 years. He graduated from New York University, followed by Harvard Medical School, and completed his residency at Massachusetts General Hospital and Yale University. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and Geriatrics.
For the past 40 years, he has enjoyed caring for the people of Fairfield County in the group practice, Internal Medicine Associates of Westport. He has been awarded Fairfield County and Connecticut’s Top Doctor award for 24 consecutive years. Currently retired, he continues to teach medical residents at Norwalk Hospital and coordinates the Andrew Wilk Westport Library Medical Series.
Dr. Zane K. Saul is an infectious disease specialist in Stratford, Connecticut and is affiliated with multiple hospitals in the area, including Bridgeport Hospital and Yale New Haven Hospital. He received his medical degree from St. George's University School of Medicine and has been in practice for more than 20 years.
