Music to Our Eyes & Piece by Piece are the two parts of a Library-wide art installation, created by the Artist Collective of Westport. The artwork will be presented in all three of the Library’s gallery spaces. These exhibits coincide with VersoFest 2023. The juxtaposition of these exhibits with the festival offers attendees an opportunity to not only hear some amazing music, but to see it interpreted through painting, drawing, photography, and collage as well. And what is music if not art for the ears.
A large, collaborative piece entitled Piece by Piece will be on view in the South Gallery, with the companion show, Music to My Eyes, on view in the Sheffer and Jesup Galleries.
Piece by Piece is a 6’ x 10’ art installation composed of the work of the 60 Artist Collective members. Each artist received a 12”x12” blank panel along with a 6" square section randomly selected from a single iconic musical themed painting. The artists created their individual piece, replicating a part of the larger painting in their own style — without knowing what the final painting would look like until it is revealed at the opening reception on March 8. The result is an entertaining exercise in community, creativity, and collaboration.
Register HERE for the reception.
The art will remain covered until THE BIG REVEAL at the reception. You can see a video here of last year’s show to get more of a sense of what this is all about.
To add to the excitement, each 12x12 “piece” will be available for purchase starting on the night of the reception. Each square will be $100, with 50% of the proceeds supporting the Library’s art programs and 50% going to the artist.
Music to My Eyes is the Artists Collective’s second all-member show at the Library based on the theme of music. These artworks are also available for purchase with a percentage of the proceeds going to benefit the Library. Each individual piece is the artists interpretation of the music theme.
