Plot and Pixel: Digital Game Making with Twine
Love "Choose Your Own Adventure" books? In this hands-on workshop, you’ll create your own! Using Twine, a beginner-friendly coding tool, students in grades 6-8 will build an interactive story where the reader makes the choices. Picture this: You enter a brightly lit room with nothing in it except a large red button. Do you call for help or press the button? Every choice leads somewhere new, and you decide where.
This class blends coding literacy with storytelling. Students will learn how to shape a story plot, a skill that’s essential to both reading and writing, and bring it to life as a playable digital game. Twine is easy to use, and seeing your story turn into an interactive adventure is incredibly rewarding. To wrap up the class, participants will play and share one another’s stories.
This is a teen-led program. An experienced local high school student will teach the class, creating a fun, peer-mentored environment where kids learn from someone close to their own age.
Please bring your own laptop. There’s nothing to download, but you’ll need to be able to open the Twine website in your browser. Before class, please make sure you can access it here: https://twinery.org/.
This workshop is for students currently in grades 6-8 only. Registration is required, so please reserve a ticket below.
