The Westport Library is delighted to welcome back the 2022 SHORT CUTS Film Festival. Now in its 12th season, SHORT CUTS is curated from the prestigious Tribeca Film Festival in New York City. Award-winning narrative, documentary, and animated shorts will be screened, followed by a post-film conversation between one of the films’ directors and the festival producer.

The second installment of the SHORT CUTS Film Festival, on Thursday, November 17, at 7pm, is an all-documentary program.

Four documentary shorts will be screened:

  • More Than I Want to Remember by Amy Bench (USA) Winner, Best Animated Short, Tribeca Film Festival. In the Congo, 14-year-old Mugeni runs to the forest escaping bombs and has to survive without her family.
  • Beirut Dreams in Color by Michael Collins (Lebanon, UK). This heart-rending story follows an openly gay Arab rock star and his activist fan, when tragedy results from their encounter in Cairo.
  • Kylie by Sterling Hampton (USA). What does it feel like to be a Black ballerina trying to make it in the traditionally white ballet world?
  • John Leguizamo Live at Rikers Island by Elena Francesa Engel (USA). The actor performs and spends time at the prison, inspiring justice-involved young men to reflect openly about their own lives and the serious challenges of incarceration.

After the screenings, SHORT CUTS will be joined by Kevin Wilson Jr., an Oscar-nominated filmmaker, documentarian, and member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences, in conversation with SHORT CUTS Producer Nancy Diamond. Audience participation will be encouraged.

Please register to attend. For further program information, visit JIB Productions' website. NOTE TO PATRONS: Tickets and Eventbrite processing fees are non-refundable.

SHORT CUTS Film Festival also consists of screenings on Thursday, October 27 (narrative shorts), and a second program of narrative shorts on Thursday, December 8.
