Enjoy a lively, family friendly afternoon with the Oxalis Trio as they present chamber music of Georg Philipp Telemann, Malcolm Arnold, Frederick Delius, and Quincy Porter for flute, oboe, and piano — offering extravagant sounds enhanced by the intimate setting of the Library's Trefz Forum.

Why You Should Come

Members of the trio have all won national competitions and performed in concert halls around the world. Their concerts are carefully curated programs of music by composers both well known and lesser known. The trio is committed to presenting music from the richness of Baroque trio sonatas to composers that are often new to audiences, but equally skilled. At their concerts you’ll nearly always hear something you’ve never heard before, leaving invigorated and inspired!

About the Trio

Formed in 2023, the Oxalis Trio is a flute, oboe, and piano trio is based in New York’s Hudson Valley. Named after the Oxalis Triangularis plant, with its triangular leaves, they mirror its aerial lightness and delicacy, floating in the wind above the terra firma, while remaining rooted and resilient. The trio consists of Carl Gutowski, flute; Zachary Pulse, oboe; and Alexandra Beliakovich, piano.

Flutist Carl Gutowski has been performing for over 30 years in solo and chamber music settings. Highlight venues over the past few seasons include Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall; the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall; the Cultural Center of Cape Cod; the Cape Cod Museum of Art; The Art Complex, Duxbury, MA; and the National Opera Center in NYC. Carl won the 2022 National Flute Association competition and is a laureate of the Boulder Bach Festival’s World Bach Competition (Community) and Syrinx Competition (London). His principal flute teachers were Tacy Edwards, William Hebert and John Solum. Carl is also the Concert Manager of the Howland Chamber Music Circle in Beacon, NY. He holds a B.A. in Mathematics from Vassar College and an M.S. in Computer Science from Tufts University. When Carl isn’t making music, he is a software engineer who has developed software systems for air traffic control, publishing, education, e-commerce and finance.

Zachary Pulse is a musician and teaching artist based in the Hudson Valley. His performance engagements this season include the Brooklyn Chamber Orchestra, Caroga Lake Music Festival, Harrisburg Symphony, and New York Wind Symphony. A champion of new music and working with living composers, Zach has commissioned several works that exhibit the oboe and the voice. His duo, So Much Hot Air — with mezzo-soprano, Jennifer Beattie — was in residence with the Fall 2023 Yale College Composition Seminar. Zach has presented chamber music concerts across the U.S. and Europe with a wide range of ensembles, earning him several awards, including Grand Prize at the Plowman Chamber Music Competition. Zach holds degrees from the Chicago College of Performing Arts, the University of Michigan, and the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Howland Chamber Music Circle in Beacon, NY.

Alexandra Beliakovich is a Belarusian-American pianist and educator. As a performer, she has appeared with the Belarusian Symphony, Belarusian Chamber Orchestra, Cincinnati and Manhattan School of Music Philharmonic Orchestras, Havana Symphony Orchestra and as recitalist in Belarus, China, Cuba, Japan, Poland, Spain and the USA.
