Course Details

Sundays, April 26 (Komansky Room) & May 3 (Brooks Place), 1:30 pm - 4 pm

(Each session can be taken on its own, or participants can attend both for a deeper dive into zine-making and intergenerational storytelling.)

This two-part zine-making workshop invites intergenerational pairs (e.g., grandparent and grandchild, parent and teen, aunt/uncle and niece/nephew, etc) to create a collaborative zine together. A zine (short for magazine or fanzine) is a small, handmade booklet that combines words, drawings, and collage to share thoughts about a topic or to tell a story, whether fiction or non-fiction.

Each 2.5-hour session will have prompts designed to spark conversation, curiosity, and reflection across generations. With guidance from the instructor, pairs will explore storytelling, experiment with simple bookmaking techniques, and co-create a zine that celebrates their shared experiences, histories, or perspectives.

Participants will walk away with a one-of-a-kind zine to keep or share, and the option to trade or mail their creations to friends, family, or others in the group.

No prior art experience is needed. Recommended age for children is 11+.

About the Instructor

Erwin Ong is a multidisciplinary artist based in White Plains, New York. He creates bright, joyful illustrations, murals, and small mixed-media objects—from zines and cardboard sculptures to ceramic figurines—all shaped by memory and imagination.

Through his studio, A Duck Amuck, Erwin develops both personal artwork and community-centered projects. His work has been featured in solo and group exhibitions across Westchester, Rockland, New York City, and Connecticut, including Queen City Art Gallery (Montefiore New Rochelle), Brooklyn Waterfront Artists Coalition, Stamford Art Association, Yonkers Arts, and Grumpy Bert’s annual Red Envelope Show in Manhattan.
