Westport Library Big Fall Book Sale 2024

Once again, the Big Fall Book Sale offers something for everyone, with thousands of gently used books in more than 50 categories, including books for children from infants to teens; literature and classics; fiction, mystery, and SciFi and fantasy; graphic novels and manga; art, photography, history, math, science, psychology, religion, biography, business, cooking, gardening, performing arts, travel, foreign language, education, reference, and more, including Noteworthy, especially antiquarian books. Plus vintage vinyl records, DVDs and CDs.The book sale hours, with free admission, are as follows:

Friday, November 1: 12-6 pm*
Saturday, November 2: 9 am - 5 pm
Sunday, November 3: 11 am - 4 pm (almost everything half-price)
Monday, November 4: 9 am - 4 pm (shoppers can fill our logo bag for $10 per bag, or their own equivalent-sized bag for $8, or buy individual books at half-price)

*On Friday morning, November 1, from 8:45 am to 12 pm, the Book Sale will be open only to patrons who purchase an Early Access ticket in advance. Early Access tickets are available online at westportlibraryfall2024booksale.eventbrite.com.

Of special interest for this sale:

  • Library of America volumes, first editions, in their slip cases, most in pristine condition.
  • A selection of contemporary novels and poetry from the personal library of Westport icon Sybil Steinberg, former editor of Publishers Weekly, signed by their respective authors.
  • An extensive collection of history books, especially military history, with many scarce titles, focusing on World War II and including fully illustrated studies of period aircraft, weaponry, ships, and combat vehicles, many of which are prized by modeling enthusiasts, as well as plenty of American history and politics and world history books.
  •  A broad assortment of fiction, nonfiction, and collectible books in more than a dozen languages, including recently donated collections of books in Turkish and in German.
  • A large assortment of framed art — from small desktop pieces to large wall pieces.
  • A huge assortment of jigsaw puzzles, at bargain prices.
  • Fiction for $1 — A conference room filled with hardcover fiction, mystery, science fiction, and fantasy books, and young adult fiction, plus paperback novels, all offered at just $1 each. (Please note: Books in this room will remain priced at $1 each on Sunday’s half-price day.) These include a generous donation of new copies of best-selling local author Jane Green’s novels, in hard cover and in paperback. Translations of many of Green's novels in several different languages are also available and can be found with the foreign language offerings. Also in the Fiction room, a group of mass market paperback mysteries by Agatha Christie and Dorothy Sayers.

To prepare for the Fall Book Sale, the Donation Center behind the Library will be closed from Sunday, October 20, through Friday, November 8.
