Responsibilities:

The Childrens Librarian reports to the Director of Youth Services. Responsibilities include planning and execution of programs, collection development, and reader’s advisory for children from birth though grade 8, as well as outreach to the community.

If you enjoy working with Children, have outstanding customer service skills, strong oral and written communication skills, and an enthusiasm for programming for children, and a forward-thinking and innovative approach to librarianship then this may be the ideal position for you.

In addition to staffing the children's reference desk, the Children’s Librarian is required to initiate, plan, implement, evaluate, and assist in the promotion of a variety of programs for children from birth through grade 8 including but not limited to special events, early literacy programs, programs for nursery, elementary and middle-school age children, and programs for neurodiverse children.  This position is also responsible for school, community and partner outreach and collaboration across Library functions.

Finally, the Children’s Librarian should have a passion for children’s literature, promoting new and diverse titles, and developing and maintaining a vibrant children’s collection.

QUALIFICATIONS

MLS required. Engages well with patrons and staff and is passionate about providing excellent service. Public, school library, or nursery school experience is a plus.   Familiarity with tenets of early literacy instruction. Ability to ideate and implement new programs for engaging children and their parents with the library. Engages well with patrons and staff and is passionate about providing excellent service. Sees the big picture and is willing to help out and work in any area of the library. Outstanding interpersonal skills and ability to interact with individuals at all levels. Strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills. Excellent planning, organization, and problem-solving skills requiring critical and strategic thinking. Willing to do what it takes to get the job done. Ability to thrive in a complex, fast-paced and changing environment with competing demands. Availability and willingness to work evenings and weekends, as required.

Salary Range: $63,900-$65,000 plus a comprehensive benefits package.
