Position Summary:
Our programming at the Westport Library aims to do more than just entertain—it is about igniting curiosity, fostering connections, and addressing crucial social issues. From captivating discussions with bestselling authors to engaging workshops exploring the frontiers of health and technology, our events transcend mere entertainment. They serve as platforms for meaningful dialogue and lifelong learning, attracting over 125,000 attendees last fiscal year alone. Our library has become a hub for intellectual discourse and community engagement, thanks to the diverse range of luminaries who have graced our stages.

From literary superstars like Neil Gaiman to award-winning authors such as David Grann, our library has hosted an impressive lineup of guests who enrich our programming with their insights and expertise. In the realm of entertainment and media, actor Laura Linney, Television Producer Shonda Rhimes, Emmy Award-winning ESPN journalist Jeremy Schaap, and Chuck D from Public Enemy have graced our stages. Notable figures in politics and sports such as Governor Ned Lamont, actor Matthew Modine, NBA superstar Chris Paul, and UConn Women's Basketball Coach Geno Auriemma have also contributed to the intellectual discourse at our library. These luminaries underscore our commitment to providing unique and enriching experiences for the Westport community.

In line with our dedication to innovative programming, the Westport Library is seeking a highly motivated and dynamic Coordinator, Program, Production and Life-long learning. You will play a key role in developing and managing a wide range of programs and events that inspire and empower our patrons. From maintaining existing programs to introducing exciting new initiatives, you will have the opportunity to make a real impact on the lives of others.

Responsibilities:

General Program Implementation

  • Responsible for the program management before, during, and after all programs that are assigned, and ensure that both the presenter and patrons have a positive experience. That includes, but not limited to:
    • Communication of materials and expectations to all internal partners such as marketing and facilities in a timely manner.
    • Assisting presenter(s) before and during the program.
    • Ensuring the setup and clean-up of the program space.
    • Responsible for keeping the appropriate internal tracking mechanisms up to date.
    • Managing event registrations.
    • Managing basic audio and digital technology to support events.
    • Ensuring accuracy of Program information on Library website.
  • Member of Program selection committee.

Manage Verso University’s Life-Long Learning curriculum and programs.

  • Identify, select & coordinate with masterclass-level facilitators for Verso U classes
  • Develop and cultivate relationships with educational institutions including schools, colleges, technical colleges, and universities to identify and attract world-class trainers, presenters, and facilitators.

Strategic Partnerships

  • Identify and pursue opportunities for strategic relationships with community and other potential partners that will serve the Library’s mission and goals.
  • Actively engages with the community and community organizations to identify program partners and community needs.

Creates Digital Programming Content

  • Works with Verso Studios to support the creation of digital content including podcasts and Verso TV.

Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • Degree from an accredited college/university.
  • 4 years of program development and implementation experience.
  • Proven instructional experience or experience with curriculum-based learning.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Live production experience.
  • Video editing skills.
  • Experience with digital assets.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills.
  • Knowledge of program best practices and current events.
  • Flexibility and collaboration skills.
  • Hospitality skills.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to change.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends.
