Marketing Associate

Reports to: Marketing Director

At the heart of the picturesque town of Westport lies the Westport Library, a vibrant hub of coastal beauty, cultural richness, and intellectual exploration. Renowned as one of the few Five Star Libraries in America, we pride ourselves on fostering a collaborative, creative, and entrepreneurial environment. The Marketing Associate will work as part of the Library’s creative marketing team and will act as the in-house coordinator overseeing editorial content and broadcast emails aimed at increasing awareness of and attendance at the Library’s over 1,200 programs per year.

If you have at least three years’ experience in marketing, communications, editorial, or similar with demonstrated experience as a writer/editor/copyeditor and are knowledgeable about digital marketing trends then this may be the position for you.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Editing all event copy (roughly 30 incoming event listings per month) for style, consistency, and SEO optimization and post to the website, log all events into communal marketing and communications spreadsheet for coordination purposes and a submit select events to community calendar
  • Write stories, press releases, and associated marketing collateral ensuring consistent branding and messaging across all written materials and send select press releases to media
  • Build out all broadcast emails, including weekly e-news, regular Verso e-news, tentpole event reminders, and one-off emails promoting select events.
  • Oversee the transition of custom CRM platforms, to Active Campaign from Constant Contact.
  • Manage patron email event communications, including event reminders and surveys.

Verso Studios

  • Serve as primary contact person for Verso Studios including being the clearinghouse for incoming requests, patron questions and funneling queries to appropriate staff
  • Direct outreach to stakeholders to promote Verso Studios.
  • Serve as go-to for podcast promotional efforts.
  • Ideate and execute regular e-blasts to Verso Studios email list.

Data Management

  • Track and analyze the performance of e-marketing efforts, event attendance, and metrics to inform future strategies.

Additional Duties

  • Manage the Marketing & Communications inbox, vetting incoming queries, responding when appropriate, and directing questions to the appropriate outlets as needed.
  • Assume responsibility for photo and video content as needed for evening and weekend programs, major events, etc.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, particularly in the Library’s Programming Department, to ensure alignment of marketing efforts with organizational and programmatic goals.
  • Manage Trefz Forum videowall, working in conjunction with the Programming.
  • Assist with social media posts.
  • Make regular website updates (using WordPress, our content management system).
  • Network in the community to promote attendance and engagement at notable events.

Additional Requirements:

  • Proficient knowledge of Google and Microsoft platforms.
  • Experience working with CRM platforms and WordPress CMS preferred.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Strong project management skills and excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Highly organized with excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Possess curiosity, creativity, a sense of urgency, innovative thinking, and strong research ability.
  • Willingness and ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
