For students entering Grades 6 - 8 in Fall 2024

Trefz Forum

This is a cumulative, three day-workshop. Attendance at all three sessions is recommended.

Bats Langley's Impressionist Picnic is an exploration of impressionist art and how it has changed the way we visualize contemporary life. From pixilation used in LED screens to how we use filters on our phones, impressionism has changed our eyes and brains, influencing how we look at color, shape, and design.

Students will learn and understand impressionism through discussion, painting exercises, and creating their own impressionist works. No experience is necessary, but participants should be comfortable using paint.

Bats Langley is a painter, sculptor, writer, illustrator, toy designer, and creator. Most recently, Bats illustrated a biography of Jacqueline Kennedy, titled Jackie and the Books She Loved. He graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design and is a regular contributor to Spider, Ladybug, Cricket, and Scholastic magazines and is a frequently featured cover artist. Bats is the creator of GUS, and his art as been shown in galleries in New York, Los Angeles, Boston, Providence, Hangzhou China, and at the New Britain Museum of American Art and United States Capitol. Bats's work was exhibited at the AFA Gallery in New York City and in Las Vegas, shown alongside some of this idols: Maurice Sendak, Tim Burton, Charles Adams, Dr. Seuss, and Charles Schultz.
