Curt Swan: Superman Artist of the Silver Age

August 3, 2022 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm EDT

Comic book art historian Arlen Schumer as he delves into Curt Swan’s Super-works—covers, pages and panels—on screen in ways that will make you see comic book art as you never have before! To the Baby Boomers who grew up on his work, Curt Swan was, is, and forever will be the definitive Superman artist!

Over the course of his three decade full-time run on drawing Superman (1957-1986), Swan depicted many of the landmark events that became touchstones in the lives of the Superman family; his versions of familiar aspects of the character's iconography, from the scenes of a doomed Krypton to sights of Superman soaring above the Metropolis skyline, became the new icons against which all succeeding Superman artists are judged!

If you missed the event, please watch the video recording here.

Arlen Schumer MFA is an award-winning comic book-style illustrator and comics/pop culture historian—his book The Silver Age of Comic Book Art won the Independent Book Publishers Award for Best Popular Culture Book, ABC-TV’s 20/20 named him “one of the countryʼs preeminent authorities on comics and culture,” and Comic Book Artist magazine called him "one of the more articulate and enthusiastic advocates of comic book art in America.” His other books are Visions from The Twilight Zone and The Neal Adams Sketchbook.
