In the latest installment of fireside chats about the future (and present) of AI, Dave Briggs sits down with Rebecca Winthrop of the Brookings Institution to discuss AI’s proliferation in the educational landscape — and how evolving technology affects critical thinking.

Why You Should Come

When we use a new technology simply because it exists, we blur the line between valuable innovation and noise. When everything is AI-powered, how do we discern the helpful from the harmful?

Before we can rely on AI, we need to understand how to think for ourselves. This conversation explores why foundational skills like common sense, critical thinking, curiosity, and sound judgment matter more than ever — especially for young and impressionable minds.

About the Speakers

Rebecca Winthrop is a senior fellow and director of the Center for Universal Education at the Brookings Institution. She currently leads the Brookings Global Task Force on AI in Education and co-leads the Family Engagement in Education Network. Co-author of The Disengaged Teen, her work has been featured in the BBC, ABC News, CNN, NPR, the Wall Street Journal, the Washington Post, and the New York Times.

Dave Briggs is a longtime national broadcaster at CNN, NBC Sports, Fox News and Turner Sports. He is also vice president for business development at Cann Social Tonic.
